Our Story

Past

The Mississippi Oriental Medicine Association (MOMA) was a nonprofit professional organization representing acupuncture and Oriental medicine practitioners across Mississippi. Our original mission—“Dedicated to enacting fair and safe acupuncture laws in Mississippi”—was realized in the spring of 2009, when the Mississippi Legislature passed the Acupuncture Practice Act.

Although we were a small group, our collective efforts proved successful. Through this process, we gained a deeper understanding of the legislative system and reaffirmed that due process is essential to protecting public health and ensuring the safe practice of our profession.

Present

Today, as the Mississippi Association of Acupuncture, we continue the work of MOMA with renewed purpose and broader inclusion. We have updated our name to include licensed acupuncturists as well as medical doctors who practice acupuncture in the state of Mississippi.

By bringing together practitioners from varied backgrounds and training, we foster a unified voice that supports high standards of care and expands opportunities for professional growth.

We are committed to strengthening our profession through collaboration, continued education, and advocacy.

Future

Our goal is to establish acupuncture as an integral, accessible, and respected component of healthcare in Mississippi—where diverse practitioners collaborate to improve patient outcomes, elevate standards of care, and expand public access to safe and effective treatment.

We actively engage with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the public to promote a deeper understanding of acupuncture and its role in modern healthcare. Our goal is to ensure that patients across Mississippi have access to safe, evidence-informed acupuncture services delivered by qualified practitioners.
